A huge congratulations to our rider Matty Banting for winning the Surfest WQS 6 star rated event in Newcastle which wrapped up yesterday.
It was a huge week with a solid international contingent in this prestige competition hunting valuable WQS points and not to mention a couple of large cheques on offer.
Matt surfed some very smart heats in the early rounds, taking down some big guns along the way including inform Adriano De Souza in the semis.
The final against veteran comp surfer Nathan ”Hog” Hedge was epic, Matty matching the hogs power with some solid rail surfing that put Matt out in front and confirmed his win taking to the air in the final couple of minutes to lock in his second 9. Congrats to the Hog too for a solid runner up finish.
Matt was obviously over the moon and we were pretty pumped too...
From our end it’s bloody exciting to see a surfer blowing up on the boards you have crafted – Matty was riding his 5’10” x 18 5/8” x 2 5/16”, Modern Lover.
Matt is now on his way up to the Gold Coast for the first WCT event of the year, the Quiksilver Pro; he has a start in the trials which kicks off this Friday, we are sure he’s in with a good chance of winning again to gain a spot in the main event.
